Grid "merging" door block

In the discord, I remember seeing people talking about a "door" that would act like a hinge (I think) that would "merge" in order to create an airtight environment. It just occurred to me that a hinge-like block could have a "field" that you could set up in the block's settings, so it could remember which blocks were part of it. So, upon opening the "door", the hinge could check the field settings and find the blocks that exist within that field before attempting to open, which would separate the blocks that are part of the "door" from the surrounding blocks
