New Steam controller support - 2nd modallity

There have been many post requests for controller support.
With the advent of new steam hardware releases, it seems appropriate to ask again.
I play keyboard and mouse mostly, and use a stick occasionally in combination with
The
keyboard and mouse.
Some of the previous posts have stated a preference for using a game controller, it is not my first choice but I see the need.
I imagine that this is mainly for flight control, what I would ask is for a 2nd mode of controller functionality dedicated towards the control of hinges, rotors and pistons, either directly or through other control blocks.
The dual thumb sticks look particularly useful for this purpose.
