  • Accelerate without limits, beyond speed of light, using a jump drive
  • Approaching mass (planets or moons) slows you down to speeds the engine can handle, abruptly if necessary
  • Need to slow down to approach or even collide with station/ship/asteroid, if too fast you just phase through as if it wasnt there, not even loading them in - no ramming into things at speeds beyond the engine

This gets you orbits, this gets you limitless speed.

The engine can handle it since you cannot approach stations/ships/asteroids at high speeds. Either you slow down, or you phase through without even loading them in.

There are basically two speeds:

  1. Regular flight (up to 300 m/s as it currently is), relative to a ship/station/asteroid
  2. Fast flight, from 300 m/s to infinity (dont load in station/asteroid/ship, just show them as coordinates in space - only big bodies like planets/moons/stars are rendered fully)

Thus the two major problems are avoided:

  1. Ramming things at beyond 300 m/s (faster than physics can handle) - cannot do this since to load in you must slow down to less than 300 m/s
  2. Flying near planet faster than it can load in - cannot do this since speed is limited close to large masses AKA planets
