Currency / money

Many features require some kind of currency / money. If keen implements money, keen or modders can build upon that system to add things like:

  • Trade - buy low sell high, buy resources you cannot find or mine personally
  • Purchase and sell ships - ships you build, ships you find, ships you steal...
  • All kinds of unlocks for money
  • Hiring NPC
  • Get reward from mission

Sure you can treat some random ore or component as if it was money, but I really feel we need built in support for a currency of some kind.

Either a separate system entirely, or just add a new item/ore and name it "keencoin" or something.

I came up with two types of currency some years ago, one is material, the other is service.

The unit of service demonstrates an amount of effort which I call The Dirt.

This is based on, I promise to shovel upon demand 1 ton of loose dirt a distance of 1 meter.

The unit of material I call The Pint

This based on an easy access, non rare luxury product.

I promise to offer upon demand the sum of 1 quality pint.

These could probably be converted into SE related equivalents.

Was thinking of Energy Credits like in stellaris. So every unit of currency can buy you lets say 1 MWh of energy. And trading in 1 MWh of energy gets you one unit of currency.

We had currency in SE1 , the problem really was it was almost pointless. Everything you could buy, you could craft yourself.

Feels like the game needs a better way of providing unique items that actually would make sense to buy.

With "ressources per planet" which they will do money and trading might really come into play.

As a matter of fact -> Would be nice if when buying ore from a certain treshhold it would spawn the ore in a pickable container. It would feel awesome to just pick up the little crate.
