Well, why not.

Uranium is a rare find.

Coal should be an easy find.

Energy may be a problem on planets.

The railway enthusiasts might like it too.

Let the contention begin.

Yeah, I liked a steam mod for SE1 where there was aded coal alongside with a system of steam generating, there are dedicated steam pipes where you can transfer steam from source (Coal boiler / geothermal / uranium reactor) to the steam turbine that then makes elestricity. It is maybe bit more complex then necessary, but relly cool.

The mod was called Steam power system https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2731780942&searchtext=steam

Coal is simple?

How is coal formed?

What conditions must a planet meet for coal to form on it?

Steam turbines and steam engines for use on planets wouldn't be a bad idea... But in the world of SE, it's actually a step backwards, a return to the technologies of the previous millennium, and from the point of view of the game, "complexity for complexity's sake."

Well, everything except solar uses a steam turbine to make electricity as far as I know :D

Not everything. SE has wind power plants, hydrogen engines... In SE2, we have been promised hydrogenerators...

In reality - diesel generators, natural gas turbo generators, thermoelectric generators powered by radioactive isotopes, magnetohydrodynamic generators... But in principle, you are right - a steam turbine generator is the basic solution in real energy.

However, in the game is missing one essential piece of the puzzle - cooling systems, which are an indispensable part of all steam turbine systems.
