CTRL+F to place lowest charge power module in battery

Would love to see an option to slot my lowest charge power cell/module in a battery instead of my highest charge one, because I want to return my empties to the base to be recharged rather than just take the highest charged for my ship.

Or, if the the battery is set to recharge, then take my lowest, and if it's set to discharge, then take my highest, wasn't it planned like that? I didn't experiment with it in a recent hotfix yet.

It already does this. I'm not sure when it was introduced but I remembered it from my first playthrough of survival, about 3 days after release, and I just double checked.

If the battery is in "charge" mode, then the pop-up says "Press [F] to insert Power Module with lowest charge". For "auto", and "discharge" modes it says "Press [F] to insert Power Module with highest charge".

I agree completely. Personally my biggest battery complaint is that you can't see the battery percentage outside of the inventory. When you mouse over a plugged in battery it needs to show it's percentage.

Have you found a ticket on that? Otherwise we should create one

Couldn't find a request for power module charge indication so I created one here:
