Thruster audio bugs - thruster sound even with no thrusters active, or not at all

I thrust up to 300 m/s and the thruster effects play as normal. However, when I let go of the throttle and turn off dampeners, I still hear the thruster effects. Sometimes if I reverse thrust for a second it seems to fix it - but only at low speeds? Other times I have done so and then don't get any thruster sounds at all in some directions? It's really weird and I'm not entirely sure what's going on with it, but the one thing I do know for sure is that thruster effects are not going away when I stop thrusting if I'm at a high velocity, and it is extremely annoying.

Reproduction steps: get in a ship - I was specifically using the first hydrogen ship you repair in survival - and turn off dampeners, fly it to max speed, and let go of the thrust. At least for me, the thruster effect still plays, very consistently.

Let me know if there's any other info I can provide to fix this.

My specs are:

CPU: ryzen 7 3700x

Graphics Card: RX 7800 XT.

I have this one. Not sure if it's relevant, but I put the thrusters in a group and turned them off. I was still getting thruster sounds while next to the ship.

My Notes: it wasnt all the time but every 2-4 times I got in and out of the Hydrogen Ship "Sledge". It would drop frame rates and the engine would get laggy. I couldn't get it to dispel the sound until I went back into my ship, cycled the engines and jumped out again.

My hunch: (Fwiw) I'm betting there's a "On Exit" for the cockpit that is a on/off setup for the thruster sound that doesn't check to see if the engines are off first. On exit, Thrusters are Off, it cycles the sound to On. I found the most issues when I would manually turn off the thrusters (though that wasn't every time, it was the majority of the time).

side note: would be cool to have practically no sound for thrusters except for bass rumblings in space since there is functionally no sound in space unless there's air to move the sound...

To your side note, sound actually travels through solid objects as well, so since you're in the same ship and there's (ideally) air in the cockpit, you would still hear anything going on inside of your ship or contacting your ship, such as your engines firing. Assuming they're actually firing of course lol.

I think sounds work even with no contact right now though, so yeah unrelated to this bug but hopefully they improve that at some point.

The idle hydrogen thruster sound which sounds more like full accelleration really irks me. And since there's no hud bar way to toggle thrusters on and off I can't get them to shut up without turning off the ship (and survival block) with Y.

Have absolutely the same case. Very annoying.

Exactly! It's like sound is tied to velocity rather than acceleration, it's really buggy right now idk what's going on with it.

When I dock to a station my ship sounds like it is at full throttle.

I'm having the same issue. My ship is docked to a connector, and all thrusters are off, like I went into the control panel and turned them all of. Inertial dampeners are off as well. The thruster noise still persists though.

Yeah the only thing that usually works for me is pressing Y to completely turn off all ship power. But even that doesn't always work. And that's really annoying because then everything else turns off as well...

I have encountered exactly the same issue. I reported (Or here is the case) it here as well and attached a video demonstrating the error.

It reminds me an audio option in SE1 where you can choose between Arcade and Realistic sounds.

For now, SE2 seems to be only in Arcade sounds mode so the thruster sounds is based on ship velocity instead of thrust rate.

I hope this option will be back on SE2. I really loved how sound propagation was rendered in SE1 Realistic sounds mode.

Wait arcade sound mode in SE1 was this horrible? Why did they even have it then? That's crazy. This drives me mad, it's barely playable. They should really just change it to realistic sound mode only then, I can't imagine anyone ever wanting this... constant blasting of engines sound while coasting with engines off or just sitting on a landing pad or ground is nuts.

No no, the sound was better. It's just how and when the sound is played.

You're not supposed to active thrusters all the way to your destination. Only to maximum speed then disactivate inertia dampeners to save fuel. Only use lateral thrusters to adjust your trajectory then reactivate dampeners to brake speed before arrival.

So the sound should be heard only when dampeners are active and when you adjust your trajectory.
