Using smoke more in SE2

In SE1 there are signal flares, fireworks, and exhausts.
I would like to see smoke grenades or mortars that can obscure engineers from turrets.
Ground flares to mark landing zones that could be placed on voxels.
More persistent smoke in the air from crashing space craft diving towards the ground.
Columnated smoke on wreckage that can be seen from a long distance.
