Airtightness between grids

It would be really nice if adjacent grids could form an airtight structure. Basically, any distance of 0.1m or less would be considered "sealed"

This would allow us to design/build custom doors, hatches, cockpit canopies, docking collars, hangar bay doors on asteroids. (Assuming voxels are airtight)

Either that or:

1. A merge block-like block that remembers which blocks were which grid when it disconnects. In other words, it doesn't actually connect any other blocks together aside from for airtightness purposes, so you can disconnect it again easily without needing a very specific design like in SE1.

2. A block specifically designed to be an edge of a door - so it is airtight on all faces, but only has a connection point on one, so that it can be used with merge blocks to create air-tight doors easily without worrying about a permanent connection. Like what the blast door blocks should have been in SE1.

Glass blocks having attachment points on the sides but not on the top and bottom feels a bit limiting.

As for a special block, that would likely mean many sizes and possibly different shapes, which would add quite a lot to the overall block count. These could, of course, be implemented as extensions or variants of regular armor blocks. More broadly, this could tie into having additional armor shapes in general, such as panels (0.5 / 0.25 × 2.5 / 1.25 × 2.5) and pillars (0.5 / 0.25 × 0.5 / 0.25 × 2.5). These and other smaller armor blocks could then have variants where one side has no connection points. That side could feature some kind of bevel or visual detail so you can easily distinguish between normal armor and these “special" airtight variants that do not "stick" to other blocks. Plus, they can be used intentionally for decorative purposes and as proper “end” blocks.

They could also completely replace the need for blast door blocks.

In any case, it would probably make sense to wait and see how mechanical blocks evolve in VS 2.2 or later, when merge blocks and merge mechanics are introduced. That should give us a clearer idea of the direction the developers are taking.

I would be happy if we had a simple but larger air tight Connector Ring that we could walk through...there is an SE1 mod that does this.

Yall are missing the point, this would allow for custom airtight hangar bay doors, loading ramps, and hatch covers on ships. Not just simple docking collars.

Keen just need to add mechanisms for docking. At least a merge block, like in SE1. With new grid system we'll be able to build pretty good docking bays.

I really hope Keen will make voxels air and water tight. However, it would be also cool if water could flow through some types of voxels, for example through sand or soil. Or even deform them, like water deforms terrain in real life.
