Faster travel by means of warp drive (A drive that takes time, rather than instant jump)

I've been thinking of ways to improve the way in which engineers travel. I came across an idea I would like to share...

In SE1 there was a mod well known as the FSD super cruise mod... This mod added in a drive which would allow a ship to 'jump' into warp. Allowing a ship to go up to 50km/sec. (Depending on the config)

My thoughts were instead of an instantaneous jump like we have now we could use a form of this warp drive to travel faster than the limit and explore Almagest with speeds depending on the power, weight class, and efficiency of our ships. This would allow for a faster travel time but have realism behind it. Not only this but it could open up avenues into interdiction... an idea that a ship can be pulled out from warp by some opposing force, a new combat or piracy mechanic / way for players to enhance combat.

Also not sure if this part may be possible but perhaps there could be a way to allow players to move throughout the ship while in warp much like how Star Citizen another popular Sci-Fi franchise has allowed.

Drives could be charged or powered by special fuel, capacitors, or raw energy. (Depending on the map size...) Drives could theoretically go as fast as you'd like. Handling collisions may be a challenge however with impacts.

I am also aware of some players in the community not liking the idea of an instantaneous jump mechanic as it feels "cheaty" or it takes away from the grandeur as you can just skip the journey.

As always any comments are appreciated
