Remote block and backpack - operation codes - clearance codes
The remote block in SE1 has a single function that allows a vessel to be controlled.
Could it do more?
In SE1 hostility is set as: enemy - neutral - friend.
Though simple, this limits interactions between entities.
It could be that I am requested to directly deliver a diplomatic package to an enemy, but can not approach due to the hostility status between us.
In other situation it could be that within my own faction I would need security clearance to access a part of my factions base, or use a particular vessel.
This could be especially difficult in multiplayer.
Some posts have suggested key cards or key pad codes, but these would only work for the player, not for a vessel. (I still think that both of these are a good idea.)
So I wondered if it were possible to have operational codes stored in the players backpack and in a remote block to verify more complex access rights, and not get blown out of the sky instantly.
A code would not eliminate the need for hacking, but could be the prize of a hack.
Imagine you find a mysterious old broken drone. You manage to hack its remote block to reveal a code, and then use this to build a new drone that could be used to pass into a base of an ancient alien race.(like Independence day)
Backpack codes could be verified by sensors and remote block codes verified by other remote blocks(may be).
A code could be revoked by acts of destruction or by the use of small arms whereby hostility defaults and the clearance code status of the provocateur is set to enemy.
'Incoming vessel stop immediately, identify yourself or be fired upon'
'This is diplomatic mission from Mattin5, we have a clearance code'
'That code is out of 6 months out of date.'
'It took a long time to get here...(silence)... whoops!'
Diplomatic mission has failed.
