Odometer for HUD

Sometimes journeys are not always in a straight line.
The distance travelled is not the same as as the point to point distance, especially in rovers.
An odometer would tell the player how much they moved.
Extrapolation - dream on mode:(The following is just fantasy)
If like a car there were two odometers, One could be used for total life time travel of the vessel, and one with a reset for a journey.
Used spacecraft could be a thing where the mileage on the clock could be an indicator of how much maintenance the vessel may need in the future. This would assume degradation over time was a thing too.
