WOW factor Ideas
I saw in Marek's recent dev blog that theyre looking for some WOW factor in their tutorial. I am a huge fan of SE1 and how long it has been producing good updates on an engine that nowadays is considered out of date. One of the things that I think myself and many people felt with SE1 is that as it kept growing in the updates, the core fundamental issue was that worlds were always empty, the odd ship went by and you ocassionaly would go to a station, but to me these weren't sufficient to fill that void. To really make a world feel alive, I feel there should be regional complexes, like small cities or hab setups where it's not just one building. If the tutorial were to say, give you an atmospheric vehicle (atmo only) that could fly you to the tower to turn insert batteries and restore power, then the restored power allow it to ggive you a marker to a local colony, small set of hab units with a docking station for travel between planet and space. The player could then trade this ship for a hybrid that can do both planet and space travel (hydrogen) to then reach the orbital station.
I'd also love to see large scale blocks that are added to the game to allow for easy construction of large buildings so that the survival aspect doesnt feel so empty. Looking at the major space based survival games such as No Man Sky & Starfield, if space engineers 2 was able to capture even a fraction of the cities, towns, stations etc that they have, alongside its capabilities as a voxel based game, I truly believe it could come out and become one of the best space based games of the decade. I have many more ideas of how this could be done but need to do more research to be understand if theyre achievable ideas as game design is not my background.
