Here is one for the back burner.

In order to create a living world there needs to be a sense that things are going on. The creation of a colony and its associated civics should be accompanied with goods and people in transit. Some regular, even timetabled, events would give the impression of activity. This could occur commonly between and within established installations and occasionally to and from outposts. In the busiest areas there may be the need for automated logistical traffic management, such has queuing for landing pad space.

Timetables could be available for long haul operations.

Interruptions to scheduled services would be considered as a news worthy incident and may require investigation and service re-establishment.

Other types of events could be scheduled, such as military drills, power cycling(energy saving), annual celebrations, surplus sales and showcase exhibitions.

These logistical routines could be crated by the player or be an operation of an NPC faction.
