Suggestion: Volumetric Lava & Volcanos
The idea:
The idea is to Add Volcanos and Lava/Magma, Volcanos could add even better looking terrain, (And they should obviously go with some Lava/Magma!).
If the developers are indeed human, they themselves probably see why this idea would be Cool, (And maybe easy due to the water already being added?) to implement.
And potentially some rare ore which hides only near Lava.
What should be added:
- Slowly Damaging ships when in contact.
- If Magma comes in contact with Water, it should create stone voxels.
- New ore which only spawns near Lava.
- Volcano's
- Lava / Magma
- (Potentially) Volcanic eruptions.
What it adds to gameplay:
- Have to create ships / structures which have a design to last longer in Lava.
- Another reason to explore planets (for volcanos).
- A new rare resource for medium to late game blocks. (Which adds more sense of progression)
- Volcanic Eruptions could spread out said rare resource around a volcano in small amounts, to make it easier to get in early game.
Additional information:
It could work with the same system water works, if that is optimized enough to have whole oceans, I dont believe having a couple volcanos on some/certain planets would dig to deep into the performance.
It would basically be water with a different texture, flowrate, viscosity.
Only thing that really has to be changed is that it does damage, and that it will require physics for when 2 different fluids come in contact.
SE1 Already has a temperature system, maybe recycle that.
For the eruptions, you could kind of recycle SE1's Meteorites, make it work similar just instead of a straight flight path, have a curved one.

Magma and lava are predominantly basalt. If "ore minerals" are present, they are highly dispersed. The only crystalline minerals in lava and magma, but only in rare types of lava and magma (from deep layers of the planetary mantle - kimberlites), are zircons and diamonds, and rarely garnets.
So there are no ore deposits in fresh lava flows (i.e., younger than several tens of millions of years).
