Let the Devs cook on Ingots.

There seems to be a lot misconception what "omitting the ingot phase" means. So here is an answer to the most common missconceptions.

Dumbing down the production chain

People have datamined that there will be probably 4 tiers of components (which need components from the lower tiers to produce) and 4 production blocks (Smelter, Assembler, Refinery, Fabricator) respectivly.

So its not dumbing down the production chain.

Having to store raw materials

WARNING: This is speculation.

If you look at the datamined components there are a lot of components corresponding to on ingot type. For example: steel plate - iron ingot; gold thread - gold ingot; titanium sheet - titanium ingot; silver rod - silver ingot.

There is the chance that these componets will simply replace the respecting ingots while also beeing usefull.

In pratice this would mean you simply craft all your iron ore into steel plates and use those for crafting more advanced components or to build stuff. Thus you don't have to store raw metals.

No recycling

Recycling could work by revering components into lower tier components (including the ingot aquivalent components).

I liked the ingots. I don't want them to be replaced by something else.

However, even if I was neutral on their replacement, I still think it is a step in the wrong direction to not include them. We need more depth than SE1. I want to have more to do when I am flying my spaceship to a distant location. So even if they make a new type of component, that's fine, but it should be an extra step on top of the ingot step - not a replacement.

I'm very interested in having a layer of factories being added to the game as well. One of the joys of minecraft is steadily replacing the need to mine with the ability to farm the materials instead. Space Engineers could really benefit from a late game material synthesis of some sort, to keep us from having to constantly go out and mine the basics.
