Variable gun calibers for custom turrets

I would love to see a realistic representation of large caliber guns and cannons up to 900mm battle cannons instead of artillery cannons looking like a 50mm autocannon.
I was thinking what would it be like if one could choose caliber and using modular design have shorter or longer barrel. Then player would have to design cooling and such to have it balanced.

You can already do this to a degree with mods now. All you need to do is go into the files for the weapon and add to the list of ammos it can accept. Such as it can take 50mm, 100mm and up to 900mm. Far as the model goes you would need to have some that's big enough to be plausible for the larger calibers. Far as to why a giant gun can fire smaller shells you could just wave that away as saying it has tech that narrows the barrel as needed or so on. I recognize that may not be ideal for what you're wanting but that's the most practical way to do it I can think of off the top of my head. Also you would need to balance it so that the larger calibers can't just be rapid fired as the much smaller ones.
