Maybe you would need filters for alien spores in the atmosphere?

Or warning signs "don't touch the purple ones"?

Having alien plant containers for biochemical study?

Deon - such abilities must have some evolutionary reason. They do not arise by themselves.

Ammorok - scientific research is the sensible idea. What will be the outcome? Medication, drugs, ... perhaps a source of Kevlar fibre?

T'is but add sad tale, long long ago a beautiful planet was inhabited by many plant and animals that lived in harmony with each other, maintaining a natural balance in this world, One day a visiting science corporation came to visit the planet and setup a research base to study the life abound.

They conducted experiments and found many wonderful discoveries. All was well until a new administrator was posted at the research base. The administrator had been instructed to steer the research taking place to alter the balance between plant and animal, to breed a species that with be used as part of a stealth defence network. The scientists were hesitant to engage in the new work and strongly advised against it. Those that were most vocal were reposted off world and replaced with those that would do the work.

An arena was created to test the aggression of both animals and plants. Animals were pitted against each other, and plants were grown densely planted with limited nutrients to observe how they faired. From each group a selection of plants and animals were selected for 'enhancement' and once again the now modified species were set in forced competition, and this time the plants and animals would do battle with each other.

This was never a good idea, and on such a living paradise. The outcome of such folly was inevitable, nature prevailed and escaped captivity. Now, in a world of peace loving species, a storm swept over the land, change happened, and in this case the plant species became dominant and eradicated all animal life.
