Custom keybinding for the blocks / actions while using a grid
Pretty self explanatory, Id love to control my ship using a set of keys, not numbers. More complex builds usually took up more than one toolbar worth of 1..2..3...4...5.-0s, in which you can get lost.
Let's say I built a crane that rotates, and moves in all 6 directions. In vanilla, im limited to reverse and lock the piston and to increase/decrease its max extension distance. Thats 3 buttons to control one axis. Instead of that I could've held W for forward extension, stops when released etc.
Same thing goes for rotors: let's say I grabbed an object with said crane, I still need to use numbers to 1. lock/unlock the rotor, 2. change the direction. Id love to just rotate it counter/clockwise by holding Q/E.
It would work on sub grids too, since landing gear (magnet) requires yet another number to release. I could do the same just by using space.
In summary, a semi sophisticated crane would take 2 entire toolbars to control. Now try to memorize what number does what..
Id also love to use all said things by using mouse movements. Imagine a miner rover with moving drill head and being able to move it by using your mouse. No need to have 6 buttons to operate hinge to move up/down and lock, piston to extend, increase/decrease distance, turn off/on. Just simple look up to move up, the opposite with down, press G to extend, press H to retract. I know we can do it in SE1 using turret controller or gyros, but it's all clanky.
In addition to all that, we could make some sort of a 'user manual' option in the cockpit LCD when inside. Or in a control panel tab of the cockpit.
building a crane in a current state of the game is the main thing you will build, where building is easier the easier part than trying to operate it, would like the feature to be added in both SE1 and SE2, you got my vote
