"Enhanced sound effects are coming"
Hi
So i have read this in your announcements and i thought i would give my opinion based on SE1 before you complete, so it can be made ONCE and that time perfectly, rather than do it wrong and than waste time correcting it, or just ignoring the issue altogether like in SE1.
"Enhanced sound effects are coming, including jetpack audio, debug gun, ship sounds and destruction."
Please make sounds pleasant, non intrusive, and realistic. in SE1 when a ship is floating thru space with thrusters and dampeners off (same in SE2 alpha ) it sounds like a damn vacuum cleaner is right next to my ear. I would understand that sound in atmosphere due to turbulence or friction with air, but in space it is completely absurd. Also loud looping thruster sounds, refineries, assemblers etc are all a complete annoyance without any purpose. Especially if you enter a cockpit, sit or bed.
Your audio department had the idea this is how industry sounds in SE1 and now we must all be earraped by their failures. It is so bad i need to almost completely mute the game so i can hear my friends on discord.
Please avoid this in SE2 for a more positive gaming experience.
Create sliders for every separate sound, like thrusters, hand tools, welding+ grinding, drilling, industry, walking, flying a ship, shooting, etc. so people can have maximum possibilities on the audio experience they want to create.
Thx
I would love at least the option for realistic space sounds. I know in many other games and media sound effects are added in space so its not just dead quiet, but I feel a really subtle bass-y sound for the jetpack or being close to an active thruster is all you need for the vibe of this game.
Additionally, I've noticed when piloting a ship and in 3rd person, zooming out (Alt + Scrollwheel) does not reduce the sounds of thrusters, which is quite inconvenient since, as mentioned here, they just sort of loop. Doesn't really matter up close for a short period of time, but when I zoom out I don't want to hear it.
I think I disagree on the industry sound effects specifically. I can't actually recall very well what it sounds like, so for me it slipped into ambient sfx well enough. I think industry being kind of loud is a bit good if anything, as a very minor "punishment" for keeping your common areas too close to industrial machinery. Since I can't imagine space cancer or xenon lung being added to the gameplay loop to otherwise dis-incentivize it, I think that is a fair trade.

I'm shocked that there is no post called "Bring back realistic Sound" yet. I wonder if I should make one, but I got the feeling it would just get lost in the massive amount of single digit upvoted posts.

On studio recording desks there are buttons called TALK and DIM. The TALK button is normally push and hold with a lock on option, and DIM will cut all other sounds by about half. There are other buttons, per track or track group, for MUTE and SOLO as well as PFL. Is it possible that some of these features, if they were available, could help?

At first it would be good when sounds are more separated to different audio channels so you can put the volume up/down in settings separately. When all runs only under "effects" you can hardly make it the way you self like it.
And don't forget: space didn't mean all time total silents. If you stand in a ship, the sound can also travel over the hull you are standing on by vibration. And what is with pressurized areas?
But yes, I also want realistic sound in SE2, I always put that on in SE1.
