Want to change colors without paint gun

In SE1, you could change colors the blocks you place would have by pressing 'p'. Please make it that simple again. Currently, SE2 requires several steps to change colors and that includes you having to select the paint gun (which means you might have to include paint gun in every tool bar for quick access).
