Air Tightness With Voxel

Ability to simply create a seal inside of a voxel with the blocks, allowing for cavern and astroid tunnels/passages, and opening up the risk of accidental air leaks when breaking through the voxels

I have always wanted this aswell.
I read something about that not being possible because it would put extreme demand on the engine because every voxel had to be programed difrently. (Its a long time ago and Im not a programmer so forgive me for the simplification)
Would it not be possible to make a block that can make a small section of voxels airtight?
Just spitballing sugestions here since it would be really cool to have tunels through an asteriod connecting multiple facilities and not having to refill after going between rooms.
