Explosive weapons should include a paint layer when applying damage

When armor blocks are damaged by explosions, would be very interesting to have those damaged areas also have a charred 'paint' skin applied to that block and surrounding aras. A ship having gone through a battle would then have a battle-worn look until re-painted and would provide a more visual clue as to which blocks might have suffered more minor damage when doing repairs.

YES! That would pair ridiculously well with this game's existing destruction, and make damage look way better in my opinion. It would be especially awesome if damaged areas from extreme weapons fire or explosions glowed red for a bit after the hit, like in NEBULOUS: Fleet Command. Fantastic suggestion.

Essentially part of the repair process would be applying a fresh coat of paint to get rid of the cosmetic effects of battle damage

Oh, that is a really great one. Like it, also because it add to the immersion.

It could be custom skins as well as paint, so maybe there it a bullet ridden dent skin that gets applied after autocannon damage, charred metal for explosives, etc.
