Conveyor Sorter(s)

Whatever the conveyor system ends up being, can the sorters deal with all resources and not miss out any. Can there be an option to reverse the sorters flow as well.
A gas/fluid separators are used in today's chemical industry, though they should be futuristic in SE.
I'm not sure how some things can be in the same pipe at the same time without exploding, e.g. Lava and magnesium ingots, unless you have a transport package system in a similar way to that it is done in the body, with cell packages moving in a fluid medium. Alternatively separate the delivery systems.
