Alternative Defense systems: Space smog

Space smog, is a visual impairment defence system that uses a dense fog, ejected from a vessel, to obscure the battlefield. It will last a little while then gradually thin and clear.

A variation on space smog adds chaff to the mix to disrupt comms and ID systems.

Requires : Smog spreading block, smog consumable, chaff consumable

Space smog would also be a laser counter measure.

I'm not an expert on space, but it seems to me that any smoke in space will disappear instantly. (Google tr)

This is smog and contains a lot of particulate, it could made of carbon dust or aluminium oxide powder, or other elements. I am not sure if this will clump, or how fast this would dissipate, much would depend on particle velocity, particle mix and particle charges. It might not fit into an accurate simulation of space, IDK, but for a game to counter lasers or to obscure an escaping vehicle it may have a place.

The particles that make up a cloud—atoms and molecules of gas, dust grains—have random individual directions and speeds of movement. In the case of gas, the speed can be determined from the temperature, but in the case of dust particles, it is more complicated... The speeds are relatively very high - at room temperature it is around 2km/s! for hydrogen and around 570m/s for nitrogen. At this speed, the gas cloud increases its size (and decreases its density)...

For dust, the speeds are lower, but still in the range of tens of meters per second - but again, the speed at which the dust is "ejected" into space has a significant effect - and solar radiation also has an impact.
