Mod future-proofing - Block/Item Sub-Categories for Taxonomy

Given that this list got out of control when one starts to add mods, I would love to see this turn into a nestable tree view rather than a flattened list.
If one clicks on the top-most level it will show *all* blocks in that category, and sub-categories. As one drills down into nested options, the displayed blocks gets more and more narrow.
I'm aware of the horizontal sub-categories at the top of the inventory, but my read is that this is a cross-cutting taxonomy, which I think is good. (call it "Tags" as opposed to "Categories/Sub-Categories"). For example, there might be several Categories and Sub-Categories that contain blocks that would fall under the "Inputs" or "Light Armor" tags.
