If we are getting food, can we get water/waste management as well?

I would love to build space stations that fully support life. Farms with plants, irrigation, composting, water treatment, plumbing, and TOILETS that work! You already have the toilet, just make us have to use it

Although I agree, will this not lead to some fearful weapon cisterns.

I don't think it should be a vanilla feature, but HOW COOL WOULD IT BE if we got a mod that let you simulate an entire virtual micro-climate ecosystem???? One of my favourite parts about the I.S.S. was their ecosystem and climate experiments, with fish and amoeba and spiders and all sorts of plants. Here's hoping that SE2 can cultivate such a modding environment, that in some years from now, that might be a feasible mod we could be playing!

In SE1 mod Eat, drink, sleep... Repeat! it contains a certain form of waste management. Moreover, in SE, ship crews are actually very small - who has more than three players on their ship?

So bio-waste production is low, in units of kilograms per 24 hours. Therefore, waste from sanitary and hygiene facilities can be dealt with locally, at the building block level, and "manually transported" to the composter.

Therefore, I do not consider installations and water and sewage systems to be necessary or sensible. Sanitary and hygiene facilities can be supplied with water and filters in neat containers, and biological waste can be transported away in equally neat containers. Therefore, connection to the conveyor system is entirely sufficient.

Micro-ecosystems are generally quite unstable and sensitive to external interference. And an ecosystem with a "human consumption" branch is inevitably unstable. Of course, it can be controlled externally, but this comes at the expense of additional energy consumption and resource supplies. This is, in fact, almost the "normal" state of affairs in today's agriculture around the world.

Moreover, there is one logical problem associated with the existence of a micro-ecosystem: where will the engineer obtain the necessary genetic material for such an ecosystem?

Blocks for growing food – vegetable patches, flower beds, and orchards should take the proven form of hermetic boxes with a controlled microclimate and service manipulators. The manipulators will also ensure pollination of plants to obtain fruit.

Such a box only needs to be supplied with energy, water, fertilizer, and, if necessary, seeds.

Since the systems are capable of creating a complete clone of an engineer, cloning plants, as well as producing "cloned meat," should not be a problem.

Taken to its logical conclusion, the problem of roasted ribs or steak is actually easily solvable....
