There is a mirror mode when building, you use ctrl+t and it shows tooltips for adjusting mirror planes.
If that's not what you're talking about, you're going to need to define 'where it makes sense'.
Because I would actually love to see mirror mode for placing blueprints or reflecting a copied selection.
There are a few topics already posted about those options, so I suggest finding them and adding your vote to move them up in priority.
