Gyro animation is too unrealistic

The gyro animation is constantly spinning around upon each axis even when the ship is not moving. Would it be possible to scale the animation speed based on the current turn rate?
It doesn't have to be accurate but it at least shouldn't be spinning when the ship is not rotating.

If you did want to get fancy you could make the gyro a permanent subgrid and force the ball of mass in the center to remain orientated to the XY coordinates of the universe while the ship rotates around it.
