A compact airlock block. A single functional block, very simple.

It can come in various shapes and forms, but the functionality should be very basic. You enter, interact with the door, and wait for the door behind you to close before the door in front opens. If the other side is currently open, you simply wait for it to cycle back to you.

Nothing fancy, no automation, and some air might be wasted in the process. If you want an advanced airlock with additional QoL features and no air waste, you can always build a custom one.

I actually like building custom airlocks. I've made many cool designs, including 3-way airlocks and all sorts of interesting features. But sometimes, especially on small ships, we need something compact and low-PCU that we can use instead of another necessary evil: Keen Airlocks, something I really hope we don't get in the new game. :)

We need something better than that: relatively cheap, compact, and easy to work with.

Once pressurization is in the game, along with radiation, cold, heat, needing to eat with your suit taken off, and other cool mechanics, we're probably going to need airlocks even more.

So this thing is essential imo.

This is similar to how we have cockpits and a way to build custom ones.


We probably also need a simple guided missile too. Not super fancy. You can always build your own custom powerful torpedoes or smarter AI missiles. Combat warfare can only win from having cheap low-PCU (no-PCU) guided missiles on top of us having custom ones.

I could go for a compact hatch lift airlock block, The airlock block could either be placed for access from under the vessel, or be placed to push from inside of the vessel upwards to the out side deck above.

When then block doors are open inside of the vessel it could form part of a corridor so that it could be centrally mounted without being obstructive. To operate, the doors would rotate into place, the airlock would depressurise, then the lift could take the player up or if placed the other way round it would take them down.

The bottom deck and top hatch would complete the airtight seals so that the doors on the block could be opened when the lift section is on the outside, leaving the corridor free to be used. Careful that you do not get squashed.
