Give wheels a real gameplay purpose.

At the moment, atmospheric thrusters can lift enormous ships with thousands of tons of cargo without much difficulty. Because of this, there is very little reason to build wheeled vehicles for logistics.

It would make the game more interesting if heavy cargo transport strongly favored ground vehicles. Flying large loads should require significantly more power or fuel, making trucks and rovers the efficient option for hauling resources, while aircraft remain the best choice for speed and exploration.

This would create meaningful engineering decisions instead of making flying the best solution for every situation.

i think this could be intentional for the current level of game development and the lift ratios are highly likely to change. as it stands small atmo thrusters are basically useless. so they are most likely to re-evaluate the lift calculations at some point anyway.

I agree that ground vehicles should be favored for on-planet logistics. But its very boring having to trek over vast distances at slow paces in a rover for those who want to do other things than drive a logistics truck.

Employing NPC's to do this could be the answer to that. If it is too tall of a task to make the NPC's capable of driving offroad without crashing and tilting the truck, the answer could be roads. I have seen feedback on adding concrete and voxel manipulation through the processing of waste stone. Using this system, you could either make roads yourself or if keen manages to make a tool for NPC's to create these roads for you, driving on roads could be the answer to easing the Difficulity of routes, as well as speeding up logistics on planet.

Having Ai be capable of generating roads between your own bases/outposts and between POI's and driving on them, could make the world feel more alive, as well as creating convoy protection/ambush missions.

Of course, the way ore generation works now, with the ores so spread out and abundant. Making any meaningful logistics networks is pointless. But having deposits be clustered and rarer, finding that one mine that yields a lot of resources, could incentivize setting up a mining base and logistics network.

Drills are basically the only voxel manipulation tools we have in survival, so we've been using them for terrain manipulation all the time. It's beyond my comprehension why we still don't have something more appropriate for that task.

A simple shovel block that could flatten terrain beneath it would already be a huge improvement.

And then why tf can't I fill a god damn hole?

I can literally see gravel laying around, so why can't I collect it and use it to fill holes or build roads? I can't even collect it properly. Instead, it gives me a small amount of iron. Not even iron ore, but pure iron that I can instantly use with my backpack to make a freaking helicopter.

This (temporary, I hope) game design makes absolutely no sense to me.

If we had proper raw materials and voxel manipulation, then we could actually make much better use of wheels. You don't build a wheeled vehicle if you don't have anywhere to drive it.

Why would I spend hundreds of blocks building a huge landing pad for a ship if I can just flatten the terrain instead? And when the terrain gets damaged, I might even be able to patch it back up.

We even used to make racing tracks out of blocks, ffs...
