I like this feedback
Do you have enough thrusters facing downwards? Your ship may be too heavy.
I understand you said the cargo was not fully loaded... but that is irrelevant if your ship is too heavy for the number of thrusters it has.
Also, ion thrusters do not work in atmosphere.

i had the same problem at first, but it is not a bug. as dan said last time all calculations are x2 in SE.
beware of the gravity vectors.
- save before go to atmosphere....
- in a little ship with medium armor and little blocks + 20k content :
-> minimum of 10 thusters to land in go up position
-> ensure to have the 10 H2 thrusters facing the gravity vector of the planet in witch you land ( 90°) look at the visual helpers.
-> be continuously in a reasonable speed ( keep your ship under 300m/s decreasing to 50-10 when you are under 3km altitude
eatch land from space to verdure have an avergage cost of 4-6k H2 if you manually control speed and dampenner activity. Dampenners are very important because we haven't all visibility on vectors forces on the ship, That is the way we keep a speed under 300m/s because more couldn't be stop by dampenning. You have a limit to not pass over or you drop like a brick in miscontrolable acceleration.
