[URGENT]

Not a Bug

Not sure of the exact cause but something is allowing the game to functionally brick a windows 11 pc


The bug involves using a control panel on a small battery to view the list of things in the barn, and it had 12 small batterys a smeltery and other basic stuff


The game froze on the menu, then closed, and then black screened, then the mouse stopped working and vanished


After a reboot computer said "repairing C: drive" and after a reboot after that there was the linked images

I really dont want to reinstall my os :( I have so much stuff on my pc

Hello Vivian Chambers,


Could you please provide your Game logs? You can find them here:

  • In Windows Search type "%appdata%"
  • Go to C:\Users\(your_username)\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers2\Temp\Logs

They will look like this:

In the meantime, do you have any overlays enabled while playing? Is your OS and drivers up to date?

How in the world could i possibly do that?

your game bricked my pc.

I cannot access it.

the images sent are the only things my pc will display. The mouse and keyboard are non responsive. Safe mode does not help. Did you read the post????????

Sorry if i sound upset but im 95% sure you guys's game bricked my pc

Id love to try to recreate the bug but that would require a pc

Id use my roommates but if i successfully recreate the bug then what now theres no pc for anyone

Im a full time streamer so if i have to reset my pc ill lose all of my presets and custom code setup for my stream

On top of that i have no way to make money right now except for the few people that are still subscribed to the twitch channel

This is a very important issue and id love to talk directly to someone that i can have a conversation with so im not waiting 16 hours between messages

To give as much relevant info as i can:


The only overlay was the default steam overlay but that was toggled off


I had ZERO apps open except for SE2 and firefox running on the latest most stable version with only youtube open.

Obs was also minimized to tray, not streaming or recording at the time.

I had wallpaper engine running as well and thats it. Nothing else.


My os and drivers were all up to date.


There were about a dozen batteries in the barn, it had 7ish solar panels, a wind turbine, a smeltery, 2 cargos, an assembler, and a half built refinery


Upon opening a control panel placed on a small battery in an attempt to set them all to fill, the game froze on the control panel menu and then my pc shat the bed

Hello Vivian Chambers,


Apologies for misunderstanding. Have you ever hard-powered off your PC? Did you experienced any OS boot problems with your PC or storage issues before it got bricked?

The next step would be to boot into the Windows Recovery Environment or from a Windows installation USB to attempt Startup Repair, System Restore, or check the disk.

If another PC is available, a Windows recovery USB can be created using Microsoft's Media Creation Tool.

Pc is brand new, both windows 10 and 11 sticks dont work as it fails

Reseting pc also fails

I strongly urge you to try to recreate this in a testing environment.

The game was on for 24 hours when it happened

Again, litterally week old pc, se2 was the only thing running

After some trouble shooting in the command prompt, my pc seems to have had every single one of its core drivers corrupted

Hello Vivian Chambers,


We are very sorry that this has happened to you.

Please note that it is extremely unlikely that any Game could functionally brick a PC with Windows 11, especially in the way you have experienced. Core drivers are deep withing the OS and Games run in User mode which limits their access. A Game could expose the OS issue but not cause it

What could be most likely cause of this are:


  • Failing SSD/HDD (especially if SMART reports errors)
  • Faulty RAM
  • Unstable CPU or RAM overclock/EXPO/XMP
  • Power loss or forced shutdown during disk writes
  • Buggy storage controller driver
  • Corrupted Windows update


I am afraid in this situation, we cannot provide more assistance than recommending to recover the data from your drive if possible and reinstall the system. As such, I will close this thread as Not a Bug.

I learned drivers werent showing up cause of the mode i had booted it into for trouble shooting

Thanks for your response

Ended up using command prompt to move files to a usb then nuked the pc
