Squads, divisions, outfits - Subgroups of factions

Identity for sub divisions of factions would be useful for hierarchy and role/purpose within faction.

It would set for friendly competitiveness inside of a faction.

It could demonstrate a difference between security/police and say dock workers or repair technicians.

Different sub-groups could have differences in access.

It could clarify comms channels too by including the group name with messaging.

Do you seriously think the SE universe will ever become an MMORPG-style world?

The idea can apply equally to NPC characters.

SE1 can accommodate 20 players on a server, a squad could be as little as 3 players, where is the problem ?

In terms of MMO, I have no idea when Multiplayer crosses the line into Massive Multiplayer.

From a brief search into what player count constitutes an MMO I would guess that the number has to be quite high and in most cases spans across several world zones and many instances. I think that if SE2 ever manges to allow over 100 players in a single world, this still will not constitute an MMO, but clearly having a hundred players would require some organisational differentiation beyond simply having factions.

In terms of being serious, I am optimistic for both multiplayer and NPC character development. To put shackles on a simple, low overhead idea whilst the game is still in alpha may be overly cautious.

I have never seen a server with enough active players to make this worth anything. Factions have owner, and leaders. Maybe a roll for member and something akin to 'pleeb'.. essentially a newbie to the faction that doesn't have full rights to faction-owned grids.

I have not seen an SE2 server yet either, have you ? SE1 has only recently started to explore the use of NPC characters in a limited way. If you want to add limits now before anyone has had a chance at seeing how far SE2 can be pushed, then you must be happy with the constraints that SE1 has for both multiplayer numbers and NPC characters. I know that I am being optimistic here and could be disappointed in the future, but I would rather be optimistic now, than be limited by what was, and instead dream of what could be.
