Perpetual motion machine using artificial gravity

Everyone knows what a magnetic field is? Magnetism is a relativistic effect of electric current. Due to the Lorentz contraction, the charge density changes as electrons move, generating a magnetic field.

The idea is to create a coil with a rod inside that distorts space. This distortion creates a relativistic effect within the conductor. By adjusting the rod like a rheostat, the current strength can be varied.

In other words, it is possible to create a current generator in a conductor directly by influencing the very essence of the current's appearance.

I don't know what the efficiency should be, because in real life, it's not so easy to create a space warp. In Engineers, it's a game allowance. But this assumption is a recipe for creating what is perhaps the most efficient way to generate electrical current in a network.

<Snark mode> Knowing Keen, they will give us ways to create free energy even if they are not planning to. </snark mode>

But in general, I think free energy schemes would be detrimental rather than helpful for the game.

To be fair, I think Keen should focus on the early sci-fi feel with believable technology. So normal means of propulsion, power generation, normal weapons and so on comparable to what exists today. Jump gates (aka stabilized wormholes) don't really fit into this but that's necessary evil to make the game work. Maybe we will get some lore regarding how the gates were made.

We might see some true alien or hyper-advanced tech at some point when the storyline gets made but it should be something special and not really for regular use.

I think for the early stage of the game technology from the 21st century would be appropriate. And SE2 mostly does that, the big exception so far is the ridiculously capable backpack. Which is essentially the jetpack and production part of the survival kit from SE1 in one.

Things like jump gates and fusion reactors could come later in the game.

Honestly, this would not be good for the game. Klang-drives and grav-drives already outperform everything else wherever they function by such a dramatic margin that not using them when permitted in pvp is suicide, and they tend to break immersion for everyone that enjoys the game's "100 years in to the future" style. A klang/grav power-source that can achieve better than 1-1 efficiency would be just as much an issue in both areas.

If someone wants to turn this in to a checkbox in a menu somewhere you'd need to enable or make this a mod then it isn't really an issue, but as part of standard-play it would just end up as another immersion-breaking device you'd be required to use in competitive games.

I didn't actually suggest this for the game. I just wanted to share it.
