Hyperspace (Mk2) - as a medium to carry unexplained game lore or game magic
After a brief discussion on discord I realised that the concept of a hyperspace may be really useful to explain(or give an excuse for) some of the game systems used in SE.
Science Fiction is at it's best when it makes sense, when it is plausible, when a system has an explanation that can be reasoned. Not that it needs to, but one that can sit as a framework in the background. The framework is used to test the logic of other systems being introduced to the world and can be altered to fit a new system when it is fundamentally required.
The idea of hyperspace is not new, it has been used in sci-fi to explain systems beyond our current understanding or to overcome the normal rules of physics. Similar to this is sub-space, another altered reality medium.
Hyperspace is connected to normal space, it can be entered, travelled through and exited. Distances can be different between worlds, a long journey in one could be short in the other.
I toyed with the idea that consciousness could exist in hyperspace and could be paired with a resonant physical form/body in normal space. This would account for the respawn/cloning system where a new body and original mind can be reconnected.
Hyperspace can be used to explain jump drives and star gates, may be it could explain artificial gravity too.
So if some mechanism sounds like magic in SE, could it be explained with Hyperspace?
I like this feedback
Other explanation - our galaxy is moving through space around 550-600 km/s in 3 dimensions with all objects traveling together at same speed through 4th dimension of time.
Jump drive could work by using energy for executing tiny move (jump) of object in 4th time-dimension (without any movement in 3D space) so it goes out of sync with surroundings (disappears) and for few seconds and during this time stays slightly behind/ahead time of other objects in universe.
Once the effect ends the time is back in sync and the object "returns" (lands after jump) but during that time the galaxy already moved several hundred kilometers away. That's why it is called "jump". That's also a reason why gravity interferences with the process because it bends spacetime.
In SE1 the max distance for jump was 2000 km and whole process lasted few seconds with noticeable time-shift, which we used to call lag ;) and sometimes on multiplayer servers resulted with permanent desync :D
