The component Gold thread has to be a place holder to give gold a purpose in the game.
In terms of conductivity gold is less than copper which is less than silver.
Gold is used in electronics because of its corrosion resistance.
Industrial uses for gold
Contact and wire coatings, chemical sensors, communications, solar panel efficiency, glass coatings for optical product, and biomedical where metal is needed in contact with an organism.
Other uses: Gold is pretty.
Some other rare elements that have use in industry: Palladium, Iridium, Rhodium
