Window placement that should be allowed, but isn't

Hi !

I'm trying to create some sort of dome-like structure using windows to create a space observation room. I was hoping to be able to build something descent using the available windows, but it seems to be like some block placements that should be allowed, because they physically make sense, without overlapping, are yet not allowed by the game.

As you can see on the picture below, the small triangle window, which is placed between two other small triangle windows, is misplaced. For proper placement, it should be placed one "block" above, so that it would perfectly fit its siblings windows. However, the game doesn't allow it, and the way it is placed in this picture is the best placement the game allowed me, which clearly looks bad.

It was claimed that the game would allow the bounding boxes of items to overlap as long as the 3D models themselves don't. An example of this was shown using the medical bay and another block placed in the middle of it. I think this should also apply to windows.

Thanks.

EDIT : After a lot of struggling, I guess I found a part of the solution, but detailing blocks are not enough to fill in the gaps... :

For some reason I can't edit my previous post.

But it seems like I could get away with adding a third layer of small triangle windows, that would make it possible not to be force to fill in the gaps like i tried to do with the detail block prisms.

After more struggling, turns out you can get something almost clean, as long as you use blocks (preferably detailing blocks) to create a later between the different layers of windows. However I say "almost clean", because its only possible on the axis aligned windows, for the ones angle at 45 degrees along the grid, you're screwed.
