SE2: Fast-Travel from Stations feel anticlimactic
Hi reader,
I know that station-to-station jumps are in early-stages and jump drives are on the horizon. But, what I think could be really cool is having a "Jump Gate" for station-to-station travel (if the player chooses). Or at least some sort of "marker/beacon" that a ship can get within range of and it will allow the ship/s to jump to a predetermined spot like a sector or station. Accompanied by some sort of animation to make it feel like an "event".
So for ships that do not have a jump drive it would go:
1. Ship approaches Jump Gateway (a ring, beacon, etc) and selects destination from the cockpit or menu.
2. Portal starts charge-up and animates a bit.
3. Lights go green and the ship passes through the gateway, gets zooped.
4. Ship lands where the receiver/two-way gate is.
I think this could be a really cool world-building feature where sometimes the other gateway where you land up at, is broken and you have to do contracts to fix it to return or go to the next spot.
If automation comes to SE2 later on, it could be cool to use those jump gates as cargo lanes. If you don't want to make a jump drive on each cargo ship.
I like this feedback
I like the idea of a dedicated machine; perhaps have something to do with the mysterious Perez Particles.... My simple suggestion while I remember to mention it for the interim:
When a destination for Fast Travel is selected, have at least a colored spot appear on the inside of the Safe Zone 'shield' and then simply fly to it and one then appears at the destination.

The jumpgate could be cool, especially it would use already existing mechanics.
