Detected ore disappearing after save, exit, reload if not mined/interacted with first

As the title says, ore that is scouted out, on the surface/exposed or buried, will disappear after reloading if not interacted with prior. Only way to make the ore placement permanent is to mine at least a small amount, otherwise the game does not seem to remember the ore was spawned upon initial discovery. Already had a ton of gold, lead, etc disappear this way that I didn't have the time to reach before leaving the game session.

I conducted a test and proved it true as an exposed lead ore vein disappeared between saving, exiting the game to windows, and loading back in. I was on a large mass near the Kemik Station (~10km) for reference.

Minearals disappeared on Asteroid

Landed on an asteroid by Kemik with silver, nickel, silicon, and ice to make a base. Started making a base and needed ice to make hydrogen. Went to mine ice and noticed all of the minerals had disappeared. Can not find them using drill, base ore detector, or ship based ore detector.

Found ores on other asteroids but only seems to detect surface ores. Nothing under the asteroids surface.

Asteroids ore dissapearing after loading the world

As i found an asteroid with clearly visible magnesium , lead and iron and i was happy and when i loaded up the world again only the iron remained and the ore patches dissapeared . Anyone had this problem ?

Resourse disappeared from asteroid

Yesterday I found asteroid with multiple resourses (gold, copper, si, ni). Marked it with GPS spot. Today, after loading, asteroid in it's place, but with only Ni. Other dissapeared.

Ore sems to vanish after loading Saved Game,

not sure if its just me or any one else. But when at a asteroid with ores, ex, Ice, Nickel, Lead etc, and you begin to mine some ice first or what ever, then save the game, to load on later, and you plan on continu mining some other at same place, its all gone, except the ice you started on

Untouched Ores disappear "permanently", if you leave the area.

Asteroids fail to respawn ores of unsaved "sections". edited areas retain spawned ores, but all other ores in the roid, will load as stone when you return after leaving.

steps to reproduce:

1: find a new roid

2: confirm it has a ore deposit using sight or ore detector (do not mine nearby)

3: modify a part of the roid a significant distance away from the ore deposit

4: move far away from the roid and/or save and exit the world.

5: return to the roid and/or load the save.

6: the Ore deposit should have vanished (turned to stone), and the edited part remains edited (including retaining any nearby ores.)

I Strongly suspect the code is regenerating parts of the roid (that were not saved), but not spawning the ore deposits in the process.

Disappearing asteroid ore deposits after building

3 times I have scouted for asteroids with multiple ore deposits to site an asteroid base. Each time, after I starting placing blocks and building them, the ore deposits disappear. They disappear off the ore scanner, and confirmed they disappeared from the asteroid. Seems to be any type of deposit....ice, iron, lead, copper, cobalt, silicon and gold all disappeared after I started welding blocks. Kills my motivation to continue building on that asteroid and I go hunt for another asteroid with multiple ores, only to see it happen again. Thanks!

Disapearing Ores

Hello,

Ores on asteroids just disappear.

It has happened before that suddenly there was less ore on/in an asteroid. At first, I thought I was stupid and had just imagined it.

But now I have found another asteroid with large veins of nickel, silicon, iron, and copper. Yesterday, I only mined the silicon because I needed it urgently. I also created a GPS marker. The name of the marker contained the available ores.

Today, I started the game again and all the ores except for the silicon, which I had started mining yesterday, had simply disappeared.

And since I had named the marker that way, I knew that these ores were there.

I have the same bug

sure , let me upload it . At curent location was more ores located . After i reload the save , some ores dissapeared and replaced with stone . Some other asteroids had 4-5 types of ores and after 1 or 2 depending on who knows what made the voxel reload . And my broken drills with glitching loop

And the ship ore detector can detect the whole asteroid of ores and now only what is visible . If i go to new asteroids will show with many ores at high chance and after relaoding the save near that asteroid the ores will dissapear

I am pretty sure both ores and markers that ore detectors show disappear. I saw a surface ore with no marker from the ore detector and asteroids I have marked and not mined and no longer find the ores there.

Hello, i encountered this Bug too, after the second hotfix, after VS2 update, i think.I Returned to a bunch of asteroids to mine ore and only found 1 ore type remained each time.

This is, as far as i can tell, only on asteroids i had scouted Before the hotfix, i looked for new asteroids and they seem fine.

Also i'm sure its not just the markers, the surface ores are gone and look like stone now.

Cant upload world right now will do later.

I had same issue. Went to the asteroid to mine gold and all 3 nodes of gold were gone. I even made a new GPS point asking= where the gold. I do not know if logging in again will fix this issue. or the ore is just gone.

I have had this happen too. They may have been ore deposits I discovered before the update, but I can't confirm that. What I can confirm is that any deposit that I had drilled out a bit persisted, but deposits I hadn't touched disappeared. (I spent yesterday and today making the rounds of my 40-50 marked asteroids... and drilling out a few kg from every one that was still there!) The other weird thing I noticed was that two of the deposits had a second ore marker floating in space a few meters away. There was no disconnected patch of ore or piece of ore floating in space.

I've also had this happen. What I've started to do is to do some voxel damage to the asteroid then mark GPS closest to the ore I'm after. I will be testing this evening or weekend to see if those ores are still present.

Looks like this issue is in a couple separate bug reports, but this is the first one I've seen with Keen Support.

Can confirm this is ongoing. Initial ore Generation is not saved once the voxels of the asteroid are distrubed, only ore locations that were altered directly will remain on the asteroid any undisturbed ore voxels including surface ore that was readily visible will disappear.

Easy test, Did this while looking directly at an Ice patch on an Cu, Fe, H2O, Ni, Si asteroid. Approached the asteroid and drilled away from the ice patch deforming the stone voxels. Returned so I'm looking at the Ice patch and have the other ores on my Hud. Save and Load: All the ores and Ice have disappeared.

Playing around some more: Asteroids that are discovered BUT do not have voxel deformation are fine. They Unload/Load from save (or distance) without issue.

Looks like a flaging issue with ore generation of unaltered chunks of the voxel in the UnLoad and Load for the asset.

Normally if you have not touched an asteroid the asset will be UnLoaded then Load via normal asset generations just like if it was the first time you discovered it.

When you do alter an asteroid, the game needs to save the alterations you have made when the asset is Unloaded but does not save the state of the whole asset, just on the chunks you have altered (to save on file size)

Because it is intended that the unaltered chunks can just be regenerated from the seed.

However durring Load of the asset there must be a flag that notes chunks have been altered. The assest is having the alterations you made and does not want to regenerate the ore in those sections otherwise the ore node would "grow back" every time you Load. However it looks like the flag is turning off the ore generation for the unaltered chunks as well in error. Ore Generation (Y/N) should only be based on the altered chunks not as a toggle for the entire asset.

I found silicon, silver, uranium, chromium and ice on an asteroid with my 200 m ore detector and marked the gps at a location where I could scan them. I then came back with a 350 m ore detector, and can no longer detect silver or silicon. I don't know if this is an ore detector bug or if the resources actually just disappeared.

Ooh waw, so I wasn't going mad after all! I started building on a big asteroid with multiple resources but at some point earlier this week I only found nickel, and started wondering if I had imagined everything.

I usually tend to scout out asteroids whenever I see them. I will, generally, only stop if ore is detected and drop a GPS waypoint. Lately, when re-visiting marked asteroids, the rock still exists but there is no ore detected where my waypoint is made. In fact, it seems that the rock is completely devoid of any ore despite it's size.

There is a possibility that the distance moved from the asteroid as well as whether or not the ore has been interacted with are factors. The greater the distance, plus a lack of interaction with the ore (and/or the probability of the ore being on the outer surface latest asteroid visited having a silver deposit at the surface upon return to GPS waypoint. The only variant of asteroid re-visit that runs counter to my silver revisit is a small broken cluster that was marked with iron and gold which vanished without being touched.

So, I found that interacting sufficiently* with ore deposits makes them permanent. Taking a tiny bit is not a guarantee. I hope this gets fixed soon.. Every bit of discovered ore is either a commitment or accepted loss :(

I'm having this same issue, I start mining one ore, then when i come back to the Asteroid, it's the only ore on the asteroid. I had a Ur deposit I had not tapped and came back to and poof, it's gone.

Can confirm the issue. I have multiple asteroids tagged with multiple ores, but once I mine one of the ore patches any patches not touched will have disappear after saving and reloading.

Just tested it on a new asteroid. Once any voxel change is made to an asteroid, any ore patch not directly altered disappears. I hand drilled a single voxel out of an asteroid containing Cu, Fe, H2O, Ni, and Si. Save and Load the asteroid now contains no ores.

As of 1/15/26 the issues still exists and occurs often. Ver: 2.0.2.51 - survival mode; I’ve noticed it before but didn’t pay attention to it; however, have been experiencing it commonly for the past 3 days.

I finally got my big ship in working condition enough to need to fill it up with ice and locate a source of silver to finish off the last of major construction. I did a scouting mission with a small ship and put 20+ GPS markers around the asteroids I had visited after running an ore detector around them (naming them along the lines of [Gold, Iron, Lead, Ice] to indicate what the scanners found.) It cluttered up the HUD but was intended to make follow up mining simple. When I found titanium or platinum among the mix, I mined a bit of those as it was also needed.

Upon taking my carrier out to start actually start large scale mining, most of the asteroids I had previously visited only retained 1 of the ores previously scanned; in the cases where I had touched the deposits (ex. titanium/platinum) – those were the deposits that remained – all others were gone.

Save / Reload did not cause the ores to return – it appears once they are gone, they are gone for good. It is easy to reproduce - it happens often upon scanning a fresh asteroid, exiting, and reloading.

Today I had planned to investigate this further, but finding this post decided to respond with what I am currently seeing. I am going to travel 50 miles in some new direction, scan another couple dozen asteroids, and try to better record what is happening and how often.

(NOTE: I am still experiencing multiple crash-to-desktops throughout game sessions – but I am not sure if that is somehow impacting this issue in some way.)

Case 1:

•Went to a large previously uncharted asteroid – detected 4X separate iron deposits, 1 each of cobalt, nickel, and silicon. Some were surface, some were totally internal.

•Hand drilled and took a small amount of ore from the cobalt, nickel, silicon, and two of the 4 iron deposits.

•Remained within scanning distance of the ores.

•Saved game file and exited to menu.

•Reloaded game file, and the 5 deposits I had touched remained – the other 2 iron locations were no longer there.

Case 2: Separate session

•Went to a mass of asteroids – detected copper and iron in one of the rocks.

•Did not get out of the ship – saved game file and exited to menu.

•Reloaded game file – both deposits were still detectable.

Case 3:

•Continued immediately from the same asteroid as in #2 – went only to the copper deposit, and hand drilled a small amount.

•Returned to ship, remained within scanning distance, saved file and exited to menu.

•Reloaded game file – copper deposit remained, the iron deposit had disappeared.

Case 4:

•Went to another fresh asteroid – found platinum, iron, and ice – all surface deposits.

•Took a small hand sample from each

•Remained hanging in space just outside one of the deposits.

•Saved file, exited, reloaded – all deposits remained.

Case 5 – last one:

•Fresh asteroid: 2X gold (1 surface deposit, listing gold twice), 4X copper (1 surface deposit, listing copper 4 times), and lead.

•Took a sample from the gold only.

•Returned to my ship and positioned it in front of the copper deposit.

•Save, exit to menu, reloaded.

•The 2x Gold deposit remained; both the copper and lead deposits were gone; where the surface copper deposit HAD been was only asteroid rock.

Called it a day; didn’t put full rigor into testing any differences between surface deposits vs. internal veins; but it performed consistently enough to come up with the following:

•If I scan an asteroid (and GPS it) without modifying it in any way – the resources remain as originally scanned.

•If I modify an asteroid (cluster) in any way, only the resources I’ve edited will remain after a save / reload. All others will be removed.

•This only seems to happened upon save & reload; I have not detected resources disappearing within a single session.

•On the bright side – I’ve never had a resource that I’ve been working disappear.

- in short - don't touch a rock unless you have time to sample all of it...

The issue seems to be that when you modify an asteroid, the game "saves" the change in memory; but then, the game fails to generate the ores for the unsaved sections of the asteroid, when the asteroid is reloaded (both save/load and leave/return).

you can test this by:

finding a new asteroid
using GPS to mark ore locations
modify a section of the asteroid a good distance away from an ore patch
then either flying away and returning or save/load

what should happen is many of the ores will load as stone, and only ores really close to the modified area remain.

The problem is reproducible.

All ores on an asteroid that are not mined disappear when the save game is reloaded.
