Voice Acting Needs Work

I dont want to be rude and I want to say this in the most professional way I can but the voice acting iv herd from vertical slice 2 does not fit with what I would expect from the characters that are portrayed.

It sounds like the voice actors are newer and I wish them the best but there are alot of points in the game where the voice acting takes away from the experience.

I'd rather start a discussion on this than completely give my take, im not a voice actor and I dont want to give feedback that won't help so if anyone knows what im talking about and can give some better advice for the team that would be great.

In my honest opinion Miro Sokol sounds like a robotic children's storybook narrator while hardly sounding eastern European and Ivan is stuck in traffic late for work while not sounding related to his brother. In my somewhat experienced opinion they are trying to hard to voice act, to much enthusiasm making the mood overrated. the brothers should seem like they are on a massive endeavor not making a story driven lets play video.

The quality of the voice acting wasn't my issue. It's that I believe our two characters are brothers. So why on earth do they have completely different accents? One - the brother stranded in space - is Eastern European it sounds like, the other is American. I found this very jolting!

The voice acting isn't great. But it's the writing that needs work. The brother-dynamic just isn't believable.

Yeaaaaa, if you pay attention to the dialogue, Miro comes off as a terrible person in all aspects.

(no spoilers)

The way I've interpreted Miro is that he's a psychopath who doesn't care for his brother, or the crew one bit, but knows how to be charismatic with manipulative language to get his way, while Ivan is fully aware of Miro's terrible personality and keeps calling him out on it. I often just end up agreeing with Ivan's criticism about Miro, especially after I completed colonising Verdure.

Now, I believe they intended to write Miro as chivalrous, dutiful and caring white Ivan is a narcissistic, selfish jerk, however, the actions the tutorial puts you through, reeaalllyyy doesn't paint Miro in a good light.

imagine complaining in the year of our overlord genAI that the voices are not to your liking. be thankful that we have real people voicing anything. i appreciate keens use of human voices and i hope they continue, good voice actors or not

Thats not why I made this post and you know it. I want to critique the game because I want it to be the best it can be and I want the game to be popular.

If I see something that needs work im gonna post about it and start a discussion. Im clearly not the only one who thinks the voice acting need work and sitting around saying to be greatful its not worse than it is isn't going to make the game better for anyone.

I made this post so people could start a good discussion on it and see if there are more experienced actors that could give advice or bring up points that I wouldn't think about like the fact the two brothers in the game have two completely different accents.

your argument is vapid, i would still much rather (personally) hearing a human voice a role no matter the tier of acting than a fucking robot

Brother no one is asking them to use ai. Your the only one bringing it up, they can still have the same voice actors, they can get better as the game is getting made.

Your the only one yapping about ai. Also rebuttaling my argument with a insult isn't helping your case or disproving my argument either.

This is a discussion about HOW THEY ARE ACTING AND IF ANYONE WHO HAS EXPERIENCE CAN GIVE THEM SOME POINTERS.

I think you meant to reply to another post instead of starting a new comment thread :)

Maybe you see it differently, but for me I see it as a new comment thread: https://imgur.com/a/2H9Y0K5

Either way it doesnt matter. Talking to that guy isn't is a waste of time, I'd rather be talking about how the game could be improved. One thing I do like though is the body tracking stuff they added. I cant wait to see what they do with it.

Not just, the story needs work too.

There's never any feeling of being stranded on a planet and needing to get back up to save the colonists. The colonists and saving them should be the thing giving you a sense of urgency and something you need to work to, to get back up and rescue them. Getting off your first planet should be a massive accomplishment. Instead getting up is one of the first things you do and then you just ditch the colonists to do some random missions, which makes no sense

True, they are using the first planet as just a tutorial right now it seems so it would be nice to see some more in depth stuff in the tutorial especially when things like pistons rotors and hinges come out.

This would help pad out the time and hopefully make it feel less rushed. Me personally I'd like to see a tutorial that helps new players build there own ship or explain everything that player needs to make a working ship to get to orbit.

Im sure they will flesh everything out when the game gets close to releasing. What they have rn might just be there first attempt at it.

To be honest, I think the tutorial and campaign should just be 2 separate things to begin with. Nobody will want to play through the tutorial again when starting a new campaign after already being experienced in the game.

I think it's actually good for a tutorial to first give you finished ships and bases and show you some cool aspects of the game and then teach you how to build them, but it doesn't work for the start of a campaign. I don't think a campaign should have any of that after crash landing,

Thats very true and a good point! I wasn't thinking about replayability!
