Engineering - Manufacturing Facility
Location: Verdure
We are looking to build an manufacturing facility on Verdure. Finish construction on the site.

The above mission had me fly to the surface of verdure to complete the cargo container, smelter and assembler.
Then it wanted 12 heavy-duty plates crafted and taken to the inventory.
This is where the bug occurs. Upon grabbing the plates it says "Objective completed" and removes the todo item
"12 heavy-duty plates"
but never repopulates the todo list and continues to say
"Use the Smelter and Assembler to manufacture the following components and move them to your inventory."
I have tried adding more heavy-plates, taking via double click and taking via drag and drop. These do not solve the problem. The only solution was to go repair the batteries in the facility, even though there was no indication to do so, I had to interpolate that it might want that done since they were partially unassembled. This completes the contract and solves as a workaround.
I surmise the batteries were supposed to be constructed at the same time as the cargo container, smelter and assembler and were not listed as todos but were listed as final requirements for contract completion.
I recommend that the contract completion system be looked at as a whole, because this seems like a very likely place for many "softlocked" contracts in the future. Perhaps the final completion requirements should be built from the actual todo items instead of being created on their own?
Maybe I'm wrong about how you're building the contracts in the code, but this is my suspicion.
For what its worth I reloaded the time shortly after receiving the contract, after arriving at the location, and after gathering resources just before assembling the machines. The same bug occurred in all instances.
Same. I have tried grinding and re-building assembler. I have tried loading backup save. I have tried exit to desktop and relaunching. Nothing works

I needed to abandon it, restart it and do it again to see that it needed 8 wires too

I have this same issue with the heavy plate. Also, the previous one with the Cargo Box retrieval was not completing, I ended up pushing them by hand out of the warehouse and back in and it completed it. Also When landing on the surface a couple of times the game has crashed.

Crafted and picked up the 12 Heavy Plates.
Fixed it. I had wires from before in the ship and it did not tell me to grab them.

I also received the soft-lock where progress was not showing after making the heavy plates. However I just crafted 8 wires as well courtesy of Joe's response, and the quest updates.
The problem doesn't seem to be the questing system, its the UI's display of the quest that's bugging.

Similar to the OP's screenshot, mine does not say what components to manufacture at all so I have no way to know how to complete this contract other than to manufacture every component until it hopefully works.
Edit: I noticed there were 2 unfinished batteries in the front of the base, I built these batteries and it completed the objective (didn't have to manufacture anything, just used components I already had)

This indeed seems to be an issue of the UI/Contract Info not displaying correct or complete information. The Heavy Duty Plates and Wire are required for the last step of the contract, which is to repair the partially-constructed batteries on the base. For some reason, the contract does not show the bit about assembling the wires.
Its *possible* that I already had wires in my inventory, so the objective got marked complete, but I cannot confirm this.

Thank you for your comments and help, The Wire not being in the inventory was indeed the problem. The contract bit needs to be updated to include the wire requirement. The contract works however, is misleading by the omission of this requirement. Thank you again for all of your comments and help. I can now move on in my journey in this new world. :)

I had the same problem. Crafting the 8 wires and putting them in my inventory with the 12 heavy duty plates caused the contract to proceed to the next step. Thanks all!

Ah yes that was so annoying. It takes so long to fly to the other side of the planet to get this bug.

The sub-objective of the 12 heavy duty plates showed as complete for me, but then I just have...
From someone's mention of wires here, I went and picked wires out of my ship and it completed lol. Thanks.

The issue is that the contract does not tell you to make wire (or get copper I guess because I didn't make wires), and then repair the two damaged batteries in the rest of the station.
Repair those batteries and it should be good to go.

I experienced this too, though I was fortunately able to guess the solution.

During that contract, I had the same thing happen to me. I think the contract is supposed to show you 2 items and instead shows 1. I thought it was because I had a bunch of other ores/components in my inventory it considered that part of the task complete. I emptied everything i had into one of their containers and the tasks completed.

Hello Engineers,
This issue is fixed on next update (Gave version 2.0.2.33).
The Contract now clearly states to produce 12 Heavy-Duty Plates and 8 Wires.
Afterwards, the produced components are to be used to finish construction of 2 Batteries in the facility.
As such, I will close this thread. If you encounter this issue again after next update, please create a new thread.
Kind Regards,

Reopening
Colonization contract "Engineering - Manufacturing Facility" softlock
The contract was not showing the 8 wire requirement for this contract.

I had the same thing, but saw this, when I put the copper wire in my inventory to repair the batteries the mission updated. I assume it would update immediately if you had the copper wire in your inventory.

I have the exact same bug. I'm at the same stage. It says objective completed when I transfer the Heavy plates to my inventory but does not proceed on to the next objective. It pretty much means that I cannot proceed with doing anymore contracts.

I had this issue, and luckily I was told (by someone who didn't experience this bug) that building some wire as well and putting it into your inventory as well works. It probably /is/ part of the requirements, it's just not being displayed.

Addendum. I don't believe batteries should have been on the original construction list. It seems that wires were just not listed for the assembler instructions, according to others. So they would have been a battery requirement. I see the flow now. I still stand by that the actual requirements needed to progress should be built by the todo items listed and not from underlying code. In case of a order of operations error or forgotten instructions this would still allow us to "figure it out" to progress, instead of being met with a blank list and no new instructions.

Awesome workaround :) It seems your theory is correct. Once I repaired one of the batteries, the quest log jumped to "Now repair the 2 batteries". (my save was from v2.0.2.2629. I loaded and was able to continue if this workaround on v2.0.2.33)
Edit: probably wrong version

The wires to be constructed weren't put in the todo list. You can also repair the batteries without the mission updates and that will complete the contract as well.

The contract is failing to list the wires you need to craft before it tells you to repair the batteries. So it never tells you to repair batteries because you never construct the wires you don't know about. Repair the batteries is the current workaround.

Hey, just got the Mission Finished.
Produce: 12 Heavy-Duty Plate
4 Wire
and then Repair the rest of the Batteries and the Contract will be Complete.

ok i went back to a previous save, worked my way back to the produce components mission, it prompted the 12 heavy plates, i built them, it cleared but didnt tell me to make wire, and i completed the battery and it said that task was complete but i am still getting the screen to build and put in my inventory.

I think I made 20 of both HD plates and wires and that marked the task done.

It's a number of missions that are bugged. I can't finish #2 or #3

My contract was to manufacture 12 hard duty plates and put them into inventory. Inventory was full, so at firs I took 4 from assembler, then took remaining 8 and progress stopped. I wasn't able to complete the contract.

V.39 : same bug

The Bug is, that the second part of the task "craft 8 wires" is missing (maybe its just 6 oder even 10, i cant remember what is missing in the baterries). If you craft them, the next part of the task "repair batteries" appears.

Strange, I got the 8 wires prompt and completed it, but got no prompt to make 12 heavy plates. It just showed "build the following: [nothing]" Does it depend on what we have in our inventory or what materials the assembler has access to?
I read last week's bug report about the same issue and then made the 12 plates successfully. That gave me the prompt for the batteries and I could complete it.

ok, maybe you can tell me what im doing wrong, why cant i reenter the atmosphere without crashing.

and i have a base, it was making power, now it is not, there are two of the 4 battery banks, 4 large solar panels, no power, cant run the o2 h2 maker, to power the reactor..too many glitches, not enough tutorials, the first one was better, and are there gonna be wheels vehicles, and hydraulics?

also why in both games when you land hard does it fly out of control and normally end up on its lid, with no way to flip it, i have had to make sure i save every time i get in my ships, the miner got stuck going thru the rock and would not reverse, it was tilted down and would not do anything, and my main story ship, when returning from space just crashes if you do anything above 100kph, it took 8 times before i could land it and then it was on its lid, and wouldn't flip, an hour later i went back to disassemble and tried it and it flipped and was airborne. is this intentional or something no one has complained about or just something you cant fix, i love the game and the path it looks like you are going with it, unlocking sectors is what most everyone has been wanting. sorry for so many questions , we " our whole family of 4 play this in our game room on four 65 inch tvs, so we love to play and try and out do each other, and are impatiently waiting for multiplayer. and hey id be glad to make some videos and let you approve them for tutorials, just hook me up with the latest and greatest.

Hello Engineers,
The Contract should correctly state to manufacture 12 Heavy-Duty Plates and 8 Wires on current Game version: 2.0.2.51
Please note that the Contract system will be expanded upon and improved in future Vertical Slices.
