Something with 5 letters of text room, can be set up to measure power usage, power remaining, fuel usage, fuel remaining, speed (maybe), or anything with a value. Goes to zero when it's turned off.

+1 because I don't like that all ship designs in SE1 were relegated to hyperfuturistic designs, even the super heavily industrial-themed ones. Have the fancy computer graphic screens and holograms in the space yachts and the advanced warships, and let me build a freighter that I have to run around checking gauges on. It would add a lot of additional diversity to interior design and decorating, still be functional, and not have to have advanced screens everywhere.
It wouldn't even have to be all that complex, just let it read some data from whatever it's attached to, or as mentioned originally here, let it read one of 3(?) values, so they aren't just a one trick pony, and/or can be utilised by modders.
