Safe Zones are VERY overpowered for pvp servers.
I have been testing this for a bit and these safe zones are waaay to easy to set up and keep running. This will completely ruin pvp on the different servers. I know this might not be a priority for you guys but i can see some very serious issues for pvp looking forward if this system is implemented.
Attacking bases will be a thing of the past, players will be able to hide in their base.
I was thinking that maybe the zone chips were very expensive but thats not the case. They arent really rare either.
Within a few hours i was able to set up a shield that would last for more than a day at 500m. You would be able to hide an entire faction under that.
This needs to be either very limited or an option needs to be added specificly for the block. Having a constant shield around a base will just have people sit in their bases, only poking out for some mining or the odd mission.
This will be a complete switch from pvp to pve and i know this will make some folks stop playing, myself included.
P.s we were able to set up a safe zone around a trade stations safe zone blocking others from using it. I dont think this is intentional?
I agree. How about having the generator exposed and not be covered by shields? Give an offset to the shield and make it so you cannot place an active shield such that a safe zone generator is inside the shield? Now your job is to protect the generator, bury it, hide it, turret it and make sure it isn't damaged.

Having to maintain a *station* and being able to have that be defended means that griefers that plague players while they are offline cannot just have their way. Additionally, if you are doing any kind of resourcing or trading, you'll have to leave the shield. There are still plenty of ways to engage in PVP without wrecking player bases. Additionally, if they can't get out of their base, how are they supposed to buy zone chips?

In reference to claiming a station by blockading it, I think that's equally valid. I assume more than one trade hub exists.

Disagree. This is great balance against griefers. And server operators can still encourage interaction by placement of planets, roids, resources, etc. as they have always been able to do.

I think for mixed PvE/PvP servers safe zone acts as SAFE ZONE for pve players to play without to worry being ganked/griefed/trolled. I would argue that it's cheap to maintain (in terms of money and energy).

Or turn it into a PvP game mode: The more members of a PvP faction are present and inside the safe zone, the more often (and the longer) it flickers and lets shots through.
(Let's pretend that all the members present are using too much energy for life support and it weakens the shield. )
So if you want to attack another faction, you wait for them to be assembled and hiding in their base, and prepare to fire at the barrier in the moment when it starts flickering randomly... Then they either have to come out into the open to stabilise the barrier, or their barrier will keep flickering...

i think they can make shields start consuming more energy while they being shooted until base is out of energy or out of uranium ingots.

Personally having to constantly defend from people tunneling into a base with warhead materials is annoying. Safezone field helps eliminate that issue. If I want to be attacked or harassed constantly I'll join a pvp server that does not allow the Zones. There is no OP nature to the safezone. The zone is exactly what it says it is.. the zone is not a shield or defense screen... its a zone. If you wanna play on PVE/PVP server just keep hunting for bases that does not have a Zone set up, and the same for if you want to get griefed or attacked while offline... just don't use a zone.
