Problems
- We have to buy the safe zone "fuel" item from NPCs. Space Engineers is a mining game, everything comes from it.
- The player can leave the "shield" off, when attacked, bum, turn it on. The fun is over and there is nothing that pvp players can do about it. No shooting, no raiding, no fun, no emotion.
- We can just turn ship into station right next the raid target then turn on the safe zone.
- It's not fun.
Suggestions
This system can be better (and funnier) by adding a new ore to the game.
- Make it waste a lot of power with refining.
- This ore can be turned into "shield energy".
- (Optional) This energy can be store into a different battery, and then the "safe zone generator" consuming this energy.
- (Optional) Add a refinery module that allows it to refine this new ore. Also, consumes a lot of extra power.
- The shield's radius decreases as the battery goes down.
- Shooting on the shield or making the ship crash inside consumes more energy.

Yes, Zone Chips is one of the economy sinks. So you can not make them. This is intentional. Safe Zone is for active player/factions.

We can just turn ship into station right next the raid target then turn on the safe zone.
You can not use Safe Zone like that. There is a starting timer (30 seconds at this moment). If we see that 30 seconds is not enough, we can always change that.
Safe zone is not a shield. It's a safe zone and we do not have a plan to make a shield from it.

I think safe zones the way they are played in the public test is only game breaking for people who like to intentionally destroy things. And for people who like to exist peacefully or have planned ONLINE pvp(The majority of devoted engineers) it will work perfectly.

What kind of PVP are we talking about? Any PVP offline activity ends with the victory of the one who is online. And you can’t do anything with it, even though you’ll cover the entire base with guns.
