Problems

- We have to buy the safe zone "fuel" item from NPCs. Space Engineers is a mining game, everything comes from it.

- The player can leave the "shield" off, when attacked, bum, turn it on. The fun is over and there is nothing that pvp players can do about it. No shooting, no raiding, no fun, no emotion.

- We can just turn ship into station right next the raid target then turn on the safe zone.

- It's not fun.


Suggestions

This system can be better (and funnier) by adding a new ore to the game.

- Make it waste a lot of power with refining.

- This ore can be turned into "shield energy".

- (Optional) This energy can be store into a different battery, and then the "safe zone generator" consuming this energy.

- (Optional) Add a refinery module that allows it to refine this new ore. Also, consumes a lot of extra power.

- The shield's radius decreases as the battery goes down.

- Shooting on the shield or making the ship crash inside consumes more energy.

Yes, Zone Chips is one of the economy sinks. So you can not make them. This is intentional. Safe Zone is for active player/factions.

We can just turn ship into station right next the raid target then turn on the safe zone.

You can not use Safe Zone like that. There is a starting timer (30 seconds at this moment). If we see that 30 seconds is not enough, we can always change that.

Safe zone is not a shield. It's a safe zone and we do not have a plan to make a shield from it.

But 30 seconds isn't enough to do any damage to a station/ship, and the blacklist will just kick you out when the 30 seconds expire.

Safe zone puts administrator powers as an element of gameplay. It's going to break the game, blowing away the magic of Space engineers, where everything can be destroyed with the right effort and experience.

Look at rust, they have vending machines, but they're not making it immortal.

Safe Zone Block is not connected to the game.

Also, my second feedback, all that system doesnt look like a game, it's more like a Software.

It should be that the Safe Zone, when toggled and has blacklisted players or ships inside, will not be ejected out of the station.

And also perhaps if the safeZone if being attacked (with the exception of NPC stations) The power drain will increase or maybe even the amount of zone time will be slightly reduced = 250 missile rockets = 1hr of zone time drained.

I think upping the wait to about 5 minutes would be balanced.

it's not mind-numbing to wait that long for its intended purpose and gives anyone trying to attack you enough time to damage your place

1st solution: If during the 30 second startup timer the safe zone grid gets damaged it will turn off.

This will prevent it being used during combat

2nd solution: you cant start up a safe zone if there are enemies within 1000 meters of the generator

This will stop raiding with the zone up in safety, however this could be used as a way to grief a station.

EXTRA problem which might arise: People might fly into safe zones while being chased, you can solve this

by adding a combat timer. If a grid has been damaged or shot in the past five minutes it may not enter a

safe zone, preventing escape.

i think adding the safe zone block was a big mistake.. we want realism.. we want to be able to defend our bases not turn on a block and fun is over.. we all thought this was a shield and were very excited.. you have disappointed us keen!

The safe zone is not bad as it is. My only wish for an improvment is that the block can only be build on Stations and if a block is present convertion to a ship is no longer possible.

Turn off conversion on your server, add shield generator parameters in server settings for Economy Update. Problem solved. :P

I think safe zones the way they are played in the public test is only game breaking for people who like to intentionally destroy things. And for people who like to exist peacefully or have planned ONLINE pvp(The majority of devoted engineers) it will work perfectly.

What kind of PVP are we talking about? Any PVP offline activity ends with the victory of the one who is online. And you can’t do anything with it, even though you’ll cover the entire base with guns.

There's a mod that sorts that, it's supposed to disable damage on your station and makes it visibly opaque when your faction's offline. I'm not sure if it still works though, I haven't tested it.

pvp in this game is possible only by agreement; in other cases it is hopelessly broken
