No ice in space

Mike shared this bug 5 years ago
Solved

I have reloaded the world i started in the previous playtest, and the tons of ice in my ship are gone. Also there is no ice on any asteroid i visited so far anymore.

EDIT: i started a new scenario "never surrender" spawned in spacesuit in space and went on searching. No ice at all on any asteroid.

There used to be ice on pretty much any asteroid along with iron. Now all the deposits look the same in shape and size (round circle) and ive found plenty of everything except of ice (none) and iron (just one deposit) and i've visited about 20 asteroid clusters.

It almost looks like the spawntable wich decides wich resource spawns how often is inverted.

I also could not locate Ice deposits in space. What I would do is change the Rock voxel materials for asteroids so that they would produce a different "Asteroid Rock". That Rock when refined would produce trace amounts of Ice along with potentially other minor changes to the ingot yields of the new Asteroid Rock where balance is needed.

There is ice in space, the new voxel material is whiter and it's hard to see against the white rock voxel but I've found it in the playtest, there's also stone on Europa. It might be rarer but maybe that's a good thing. Look for asteroid clusters.

I built a ship with an ore detector just for scavenging. I have yet to find any ice...

Since i can't Edit my posts anymore:

I did a little bit more testing and im frustrated as hell. This isn't funny anymore. (sorry for my abusive language)

I went on searching for ice on the "never surrender" scenario for abbout 3 and a half hours. I found exactly ZERO ice. Then i startet a new "star system" world, and found ice on my first asteroid, but then never again. Also the ice was not indicated on the hud whith my drill equipped, nor does the ore detector shows ice on asteroids, even if its there ton this one and only asteroid. While ice lakes on planets work as before.

And after so many hours wasting with this shit, i can tell you that your new voxel material stuff is absolute garbage.

There are giant asteroids with just a tiny little silver ore deposit, or magnesium, or whatever. I can't wrap my head around why you had to change this. It was perfect before and is absolutely BS now. All the deposits look exactly the same (shape and size) and you can hardly find it in the first place. And if someone has found ice in the "never surrender" scenario, i would like to see proof of that via screenshot, or it didn't happen. Because i actually wasted Hours doing nothing other than searching for this.

Also i have 2470 hours in SE. So don't tell me, im just not looking hard enough!

The whole resource balancing in this survival update makes the game less fun. It does make the game more challenging but not at the expense of a FUN factor of the game, also I find it ridiculous given the fact that ice is in reality very common in space. Why mess with a good system? re balance it slightly but do not remove resources completely. If you want people to go into space and also need planets, find a logical reason for both, this seems to forced!

What about resource settings in the game options, where I can set the abundance and occurrence for the various resources. perhaps sliders for abundance and toggles for planet based resource constraints on/off?

Never surrender.

But Large ore detector doesn't pick it up. So that's definitely a bug, it detects other ice voxels but not this one.

How are you supposed to find that? Do you have a gps location? I think the Scenario has always the same seed, but i could be wrong.

I dunno. They need to fix the Ore detection bug and I'm getting much blurrier voxel textures at medium distance which really doesn't help. Also a lot of screen tearing moving near voxels.

In the current main version I spent hours looking for uranium in my survival world so I get the frustration.

Ive not seen any Ice only asteroid clusters yet, which there are in the current version. But if it's this white voxel material that would probably explain it because it looks just like the moonrock one >couple 100 metres away.

Would be nice for some feedback from them about abundance. Would be nice to have toggles/sliders too. Not real keen on the no uranium on earth. Earth start = Worst start at the moment.

Bingo... i went there and there is actually one with ice. Thank you.

Ok, now we need a dedicated thread where ppl can share gps coordinates of ice.

OR they can maybe just fix the Ore detector and give me my 3 hours back. I dont wanna know how many deposits i missed because i trusted the detector... :/

But i still think Ice is way too rare in space!

I found ice in space last night while trying to find cobalt so I could make grids for cargo and larger refineries. But I only found it because I got out of my ship and went right up to a shiny spot. Even with the drill out, there was no "mine ice" icon. I also find the 150m max range of the large grid ore detector useless.
