Dust, Frist, concrete skins not rendering properly and Engineers skin resets after each restart.

The concrete, dust, frost armor texture renders in as a black with rainbow bloom colorway. Also after exiting, restarting or shutting down my engineers skin resets to default but retains the chosen colour along with the tools.

To recapitulate:

  • Reinstall of the game after backing up your save files to cloud was advised
  • The character textures and armor skin textures can appear blurred or low quality when there is not enough memory to stream them in or when the game is not yet fully installed. In that case a red box on the top right is displayed with the text "Installation in Progress". But because you now report black textures along with colourful bloom this in part can be ruled out.
  • In case the reinstall does not help you can respond here and we can try to iterate further to diagnose the issue you are experiencing.

Further:

  • One probable cause could be a corrupted configuration file.
    It is a part of user data/save data for Space Engineers on PS5, but it has its own entry in the Saved Data Management part of the PS System UI.
    It should be possible to delete the configuration without causing a deletion of any of your other saved worlds, etc..
    It will be regenerated on the next startup of the game.
    The data lost this way includes toolbar settings, last color picker and armor skin values and several setting from options as well as consent to Mod.io and GDPR, etc...
    Deletion essentially tells the game you are starting the game in blank state, so in case you customized anything settings wise, you would have to do that again.
  • If none of the above helps, then we can try guiding you through sending us a Log file from the session where the render issue happened through a section of the in-game Help screen, where you would type some identifier for us to recognize it was you. For example the text "Black texture with rainbow" would be enough.

I have submitted a more in depth bug report earlier for the skin reset, it has not been fixed yet.

Hello, Engineer!


We are aware of the issues you've described. We've added your report to our internal system tickets on the blurry skins and resetting skins.

We can mention that block skins are downgraded for performance issues, so it is possible it can be mitigated by reducing the amount of skins you use at the same time or amount of LCD screen blocks you have present nearby.

We will update this ticket when we have more information.

The rendering issue with the blocks happens regardless of how big my save is. It happens on a brand new save with only one building and no LCD screens. I can start a fresh game build a habitat and if it's in dust, frost or concrete the blocks render in as a black and rainbow bloom. They do not appear blurry.
