Vanilla counterparts to DLC only blocks lack the same variety.

Notably, several recently-added DLC blocks have addition variants which are not found in the vanilla game. This includes the DLC passageway and variants, the single button panel, and possibly several new blocks from the Heavy Industry pack. The original Steel Catwalk, Cover Wall and their variants lack the amount of seen with the Grated Catwalks and Railing from the Decorative Blocks 2 pack. The Passage Block, as of the release of the Warfare 1 pack, has a DLC counterpart that has worlds more utility than the vanilla block thanks to its variants. It would be nice if Keen could return to the vanilla block palette and update them to the standards of the DLCs.

Vanilla has a 4-button panel. This is all the functionality of the 1-button panel, but with 3 extra buttons.

The DLC passageways and variants can all be replicated (from a pure-functionality perspective) by vanilla passage and catwalk blocks.

The only DLC blocks that would merit a "vanilla" version, are the passage with light block, and the cross-intersection industrial conveyor block. I support a request for vanilla variants of those two blocks.

Using catwalks to create makeshift passageways is quite insulting when the passageways included in a DLC have a full set of variations. I don't count that as being able to be replicated, as it forces you to waste space.

It's not "insulting" to suggest using blocks available in the vanilla game. You can replicate all the DLC blocks with vanilla blocks, using the same amount of space. Will it look different? Maybe way different? Yes. Will it be ugly? Maybe. But it can be done.

If you want the additional variety of DLC, or the nicer aesthetics of DLC, then buy the DLC. That's literally the entire selling point of the DLC.
