Use of Mods without Internet Connection

Under Consideration

There are so many wonderful mods out there that could easily added to the game...

But if they are available as mods, why bother include them in vanilla?

Because if you happen to not be able to connect to the internet for some reason, you cannot use mods, nor can you run any world that is saved that contains mods even though all the mods are stored on the hard drive.

I would like to see the ability to use mods that are on your HD already be able to be used without having to connect to the internet.

Hi, you can try to run Steam in offline mode and let me know if you can start modded world.

I started steam offline and when I loaded the world, it gave me an error that steam was offline and I needed to alter the settings in my game to offline (I had it set so a friend could join me). Once this was done, it DID LOAD the world with all the mods.

I am guessing that this changed in one of the builds because originally the game would go to Steam Workshop to verify that the mods were still active on the workshop. It did not do that this time. I am so very very happy. I do not have a really dependable internet connection and sometimes I cannot connect to steam.

Suggestion: Have SE over-ride the online/offline setting of the game options when it detects that Steam is offline and the game is running. It can always restore the original setting up exit of the game so that when it is loaded again online, we don't have to go into the settings to make the changes again.

Thanks SE Team!

This is a great idea. Mods that have been downloaded should need no more than a simple update check, and if the game is "offline" then quickly time-out without error if the update is having any issue.

You can use a steam workshop downloader, download the mod as a file, and then install it manually. Not an easy solution, and won't work for more complex mods, but it'd work for tweaks and block mods.
