Upgrades, More and More Upgrades

The current upgrade system is sorta dull. I like how the player starts off with survival kit then a basic assembler, and finally an assembler. We also have upgrade modules that I feel like don't fit into the game. There should be tier 1, 2, 3, and 4 production/power/armor/ and function blocks. For example, solar panels should get darker in color as they get better. They would also require more rare metals such as platinum to be made. Batteries should hold more energy while costing more as they get better.

How much would this actually add to the game? While the differences between survival kit, basic assembler, and assembler are significant, just increasing stats on higher tier blocks doesn't really do much. Think about how the tools or weapons have upgrades, but you don't really notice them apart from getting the highest one available.

I don't really see a solution to this for the processing blocks. To have more significant tiers, you'd probably need more useful resources. Which in turn needs new blocks or items that use these resources. It might get bundled in with another update, but by itself it's just not worth the effort.

There are possible fixes for some of the others though. For example, you could make the basic solar panel impractically large and only available for large grids. That way, building with basic and regular feels very different. I'm not sure what the advanced version would do, but hopefully this gives you an idea of the difference between a good upgrade and a "flat" one.

I feel like adding this mechanic to the game would give the player more control. Maybe the player does not need a T-4 assembler, so he/she will stick with a T-3 assembler. Efficiency is what the tiers will add. But the higher on the tier you get the more energy it requires.
